Students will be able to envision their father (or any other positive male role model in their life if they do not have a father) as a superhero with a symbolic cape and mask by creating a card that opens up to reveal illustrated reasons why the student loves their dad. The card will depict how the father changes from a dad’s attire of a shirt and tie to the symbolic superhero mask and cape. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Students will be able to recognize the artistic style of pointillism and present an artwork made from an alternate tool by designing their own trees for the fall season and assembling and utilizing cotton swabs in lieu of a traditional paintbrush. They will discover that sometimes artists need to improvise their own artistic tools in order to expand their techniques. They will learn how to create patterns after observing real leaves and then invent their own patterns on paper leaves. They will also assemble and create their own mini three-dimensional pumpkin that has a different face on each page to represent the change of emotions that a character can go through with their expressions. Lastly, they will write their own observations of the physical changes in the trees during the fall season. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Students will observe the pop art style of Andy Warhol and create their very own pop art version of multiple equal sized sheets of different textures, colors and materials for variety and experimentation with their monoprints. They will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the elements of design for pop art by designing and constructing a collage employing the methods of monoprinting. They will choose a subject and draw the same subject on each texture using a different color mix for each one using a variety of materials to subtract the paint from the plate. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

The students will learn about the role that totem poles played for the Indians to tell the story of the tribe’s lineage from one ancestor creature to the next. The Native Americans believed that they were descended from different animal species. The students will conceptualize and design their own family tree totem poles by picking out animals that represent their family, drawing and assembling them onto the base of a recycled material – the paper towel roll. They will also use mixed media and found objects to add in the details. They will do this in honor of National Native American Heritage month for November. For the latter part of the project, they will experience how to assemble, write and illustrate a book based on what they are thankful for to honor the meaning of Thanksgiving. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

The students will create an interactive snowflake holiday card that opens to reveal a special message and window scene for their loved ones. Students will be able to define and recognize radial symmetry in nature by constructing their own intricate snowflake patterns that open up to reveal 6 matching sides. They will learn the art of making customized snowflakes step by step with a scissor cutting exercise to help develop focus and fine motor skills to become precise with their designs. This is a piece that they can proudly display in their house next to their real window to remind their loved ones how special they are to them.
